One of the first things you can do to help get the attention of high school students is to get the teachers involved. Do something fun or have teachers do a competition. Not everything has to be serious. Not to mention, it is fun for the teachers most of the time as well.

Make it Fun

When students are called to an assembly it is usually something that they are not interested in or something that is serious. Not all assemblies need to be serious. Host assemblies for the fun of it. Hosting assemblies with that feature small competitions or a celebration.

Bring Guests

As stated, most of the time assemblies are boring and a lecture, you can bring someone fun in to help spice things up and reward the students. Bringing in someone such as a local comedian or someone who is well-known can help encourage your students to achieve more.

Set Goals

To help get students more motivated, you can make deals with them. For example, if they achieve a certain score as a class overall on a test, they can get a reward. Do not always plaque students with bad or boring news at an assembly. Encourage them but make them do better at the same time.

Engage with the Students

One of the biggest problems is that students are not engaging in assemblies. High school students are most likely bored by most assemblies. As a speaker, you should try to get the audience to answer questions and participate in the discussion.
